Richard B. Cheney, prominent public servant and businessman, is the vice president. Cheney is a recognizable name in Washington for many years. George W. Bush was the fourth president whom he served. Bush picked Cheney during the summer of 2000 as his vice-presidential running mate being impressed by Cheney's intelligence and judgement. Dick Cheney served as the chief of staff for the president, served as an elected member of Congress as well as the secretary of defense. Republicans and Democrats all respect his honesty. Cheney is of the opinion that his work as a member of the Bush administration is to act as a candid but discrete advisor. Cheney expressed his excitement at accepting the Republican vice-presidential nomination. Cheney said he is looking forward working alongside a president who will be a team player with individuals of differing political opinions and who share shared objectives. Richard Bruce Cheney is the son of Richard Herbert Cheney of the late Marjorie Lauraine Dickey. He was born on January 30, 1941, at Lincoln Nebraska. As a 13-year-old, Richard Bruce and his family moved in Casper (in the US state of Wyoming) where his father was director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's soil conservation district.
